Our staff possess specialist knowledge in international forest, pulp & paper and biomass markets. We are also able to call upon a network of associates to supplement our in-house knowledge.

Roger_Wright

Roger Wright, Chairman

Roger founded Hawkins Wright in 1982 following a career in the paper industry and latterly in management consultancy and market research. He has built Hawkins Wright into one of the world’s leading authorities on the global forest industries and markets.

He travels widely and has been involved in all private consultancy assignments undertaken by the company. Over the past 30 years Roger has led more than 1,000 research and consultancy assignments in more than 50 countries. He has made contributions to numerous industry publications and he frequently addresses audiences at international forest industry conferences.

Tom_Wright

Tom Wright, Managing Director

After training as an accountant, Tom joined Hawkins Wright in 1998. He undertakes most of the private client consultancy assigments on a wide range of topics related to the pulp and paper sector. He is the co-author of the Outlook for Market Pulp and makes regular contributions to Pulpwatch. He is the principal author of the Asian multi-client studies. Defining the China Market for Pulp Paper & Board enjoys industry-wide recognition and is now in its eighth year of publication.

Tom travels widely, both in the course of market research and also as a frequent speaker to private meetings and industry conferences.

John_Bingham

John Bingham, Special Advisor

John is an agricultural economist with over 30 years’ experience as an analyst and consultant in the natural resource industries, initially in agricultural markets and subsequently in fertilizers, metals, chemicals, pulp and paper and most recently in bioenergy markets. He joined Hawkins Wright in 1994.

He was responsible for developing the firm’s bioenergy practice and he continues to contribute to the Outlook for Wood Pellets report and to the company’s other multi-client studies. He has undertaken consultancy assignments for individual clients in more than thirty countries and continues to do so, leading on due diligence, advisory and other private-client consultancy projects.

Oliver_Lansdell

Oliver Lansdell, Director

Oliver is an industry analyst and consultant with more than 18 years' experience in the international pulp and paper industry. He has been with Hawkins Wright since 2007, working as one of the editors of Pulpwatch, Hawkins Wright’s monthly newsletter, the co-author of the Outlook for Market Pulp service, and the principal author of the Outlook for Dissolving Pulp. Prior to joining the company, Oliver worked as an analyst with the Pulp and Paper Products Council (PPPC) in Montreal, Canada.

Oliver has lead multiple consultancy projects including feasibility studies for pulp mills in Latin America, Russia and South East Asia. He presents frequently at industry gatherings.

Fiona Matthews, Director

Fiona is a bioenergy consultant and market analyst with more than fifteen years' experience in the renewable energy industry. She joined Hawkins Wright in 2013 and is now head of the company's biomass team. She is the co-author of Hawkins Wright’s market-leading Outlook for Wood Pellets service and Editor of Forest Energy Monitor. Fiona regularly undertakes consultancy projects for clients in Asia, Europe and North America on topics including wood pellet and biomass markets, sustainability, and energy policy.

She has a degree in Physics from the University of York and is an APMP qualified Project Manager.

Rachael Levinson, Associate Director

Rachael has been working in the bioenergy sector since 2014, joining Hawkins Wright in 2017 where she writes and edits Hawkins Wright’s monthly Forest Energy Monitor report and co-authors the quarterly Outlook for Wood Pellets service. She is also a regular contributor to other multi-client and consultancy projects, covering all regions. She presents frequently at industry gatherings.

Rachael holds a biological sciences degree from the University of Leicester.

Gilles Gauthier, Research and Business Development Manager

Gilles has been working in the bioenergy sector since 2009, firstly as project engineer before taking a leading role in biomass trade associations prior to joining Hawkins Wright in 2022. His previous role involved biomass price reporting and supply & demand analysis. Gilles is in charge of business development but also contributes to Hawkins Wright’s biomass market reports.

He has a Master in Industrial Engineering with a specialism in the environment.

Caroline Evans, Accounts, Events and Administration

Caroline joined Hawkins Wright in 2018 and manages the company’s symposiums and subscriptions.  She has over 20 years’ experience in publishing, sponsorship and events, holding management roles across numerous titles at EMAP, FT Magazines and USA Today.

Tina Walsh

Tina Walsh, Research Manager

Since joining Hawkins Wright in 2023, Tina regularly contributes research on Asian biomass markets to the Outlook for Wood Pellets service and the monthly Forest Energy Monitor report. She also contributes to other multi-client and consultancy projects. Tina is a permanent resident in Japan, where she has lived and worked since 2016. Her Japanese work experience spans a range of fields, through which she has gained knowledge and insight on both Japan and other East-Asian countries. Tina holds a degree in Oriental Studies (focus on Japan and Japanese) from the University of Oxford and is fluent in Japanese.

Daniel Eriksson, Research Manager

Daniel has broad experience from the pulp and paper value chain since 2012. He joined Hawkins Wright in 2024, where he is the lead author of the Outlook for Fluff and regular contributor to Pulpwatch and Outlook for Market Pulp.

Prior to joining Hawkins Wright, Daniel was a specialist consultant within paper and forest products at McKinsey & Company in Stockholm for five years. He has also worked at the Swedish Forest Industries Federation, where he was responsible for market analysis and business intelligence.

Dr Gillian Finnerty, Consultant

Gillian is a bioenergy consultant with ten years’ experience in research and consulting. She joined Hawkins Wright in 2024 and helps to deliver bioenergy consultancy projects. In addition, she is developing and optimising databases and market analysis techniques used for the Forest Energy Monitor and Outlook for Wood Pellets reports.

Previously, Gillian was a Consultant at AFRY. In this role she was responsible for developing an agricultural residues feedstock availability model, as well as projects on forestry biomass availability and anaerobic digestion (AD) due diligence. Before this, Gillian was a Consultant at NNFCC working primarily on AD. Gillian has a PhD in Bioenergy from The University of Leeds.
