The agenda will focus primarily on dissolving pulp, while also providing key insights into the fluff pulp sector. Our intention is to examine these two grades in conjunction, exploring end-use markets and the defining dynamics shaping each segment, including:
- Wood-based textile fibre capacity expansions and the implications for commodity-grade DWP demand.
- The growing use of paper pulp by the VSF sector.
- Demand for cellulose derivatives, and the competitive threat to incumbent producers from the growing international presence of Chinese suppliers - particularly in ether derivatives. Is this a cyclical shift or a more structural change? What are the implications for specialty-grade DWP demand?
- Increasing tightness in specialty DWP markets and the associated price sensitivity of demand. Are higher prices driving end-users to innovate their furnishes and adopt alternative pulp grades previously considered unviable? What does this imply for the long-term outlook for specialty DWP demand?
- Cost dynamics in wood-based textile fibre production.
- The evolution of Chinese fluff pulp production and the growing use of extender grades.
- Rising Chinese exports of hygiene products and the implications for global fluff pulp demand.
We will be announcing a detailed agenda in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we would welcome any suggestions you may have. Please contact oliver.lansdell@hawkinswright.com with any ideas or input.
