We are excited to be expanding our pulp and biomass teams and are currently recruiting to fill two new roles.

Research Manager, Biomass

We are looking for a self-motivated, highly articulate analyst/consultant to join our thriving renewable energy consulting business. We offer specialist consulting and market intelligence reports on topics related to the global biomass industry. Our expertise spans the full supply chain from the forest to the furnace, encompassing forest/wood resources, logistics, biomass densification technologies and bioenergy conversion technologies. As a member of a small team you will be relied upon to produce a range of outputs, including concise written reports and high-quality data analysis.

The role:

  • Developing a thorough understanding of the global energy industry and market outlook
  • Writing short articles and longer reports on a variety of energy-industry topics, covering policy and regulatory issues, commodity markets, economics, and industry activity
  • Working with InDesign templates to produce reports with modern graphic design
  • Gathering data and information from third-party sources, checking it for scope and accuracy
  • Analysing data to identify trends, draw insights and carry out forecasting
  • Liaising with clients, responding to requests for information, giving presentations
  • Attending international industry conferences and events, to develop contacts and promote Hawkins Wright


Your attributes:

  • A minimum of 5 years professional work experience
  • A commitment to producing work of the highest quality, with an eye for detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly numerate with advanced Excel knowledge
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm to learn about a new industry
  • Ability to meet fixed deadlines and work independently with limited supervision
  • Personable and approachable, able to build strong client relationships

We are open to candidates with backgrounds in other industries. However, knowledge of one or more of the following topics would be advantageous: commodity markets, macroeconomics, biomass markets, electricity markets, forestry, energy and climate change policy.

Research Analyst, Pulp

We are currently recruiting an analyst to cover developments within the international pulp, paper and wood fibre markets. As a primary responsibility, you will manage and support the production of industry reports that provide supply, demand, cost and price analysis. The analyst will also help maintain and expand Hawkins Wright’s contact base and represent the company at industry events, and support with other daily tasks that can range from administrative to event management.
Candidates should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English – fluency in at least one other language would be highly valued. Candidates must also have strong mathematical and computing skills, showing competence with analysing datasets.

The role:

  • Developing a thorough understanding of the global pulp, paper and wood fibre markets
  • Writing clear & succinct commentaries on market developments
  • Maintaining data & models (in Excel) and developing new ones
  • Participating in conferences and events, providing support for presentations, and developing our network of contacts and promoting our services to prospective clients
  • Developing and maintaining rapport with key contacts, and liaising regularly with industry stakeholders (buyers, sellers, traders, agents, logistical service providers) to gain market intelligence
  • Working on special projects as needed

  • Proficiency working with Excel-based analytical tools (InDesign skills also valued)
  • Self-motivation and initiative to drive projects forward with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to travel to meetings and events globally

We are open to candidates with an academic or professional background in any field or industry. However, knowledge of one or more of the following topics would be advantageous: commodity markets, macroeconomics, pulp & paper markets, freight & logistics.
